Sustainable Cuddington

We live in a lovely place and look after it so well that the village regularly wins awards, but we tend to ignore the larger environmental problems faced by our global environment.

Sustainable Cuddington Campaign Group

A group of residents begun work on bringing a new environmental focus to Cuddington. Our aim is to inspire the village with a common vision to act together on some key areas:

  • Reducing energy consumption and emissions of global warming gases and other pollutants from peoples’ homes and public buildings.
  • Improving biodiversity through creating and fostering opportunities for wildlife across the village and, where possible, in adjacent open and farmland areas.
  • Waste minimisation through reducing its production and improving recycling further.
  • Encouraging greater consideration of the emissions produced by transport and travel.
  • Local food focus

 Recent Activities:

We meet about once a quarter to discuss the project and how we can move it forward. The main events in 2009 were:

  • Film shows: The Age of Stupid, Money and Debt.
  • Thermal imaging project, taking images of Cuddington homes and public buildings with a follow-up seminar to discuss the results.

We want to continue to build a team of people to help to make Cuddington a more environmentally friendly place by building up local interest and creating a momentum. If you This could be through taking a full part and helping plan and carry out activities, or in the background simply showing an interest.

Doug Kennedy of Cuddington took pictures of Cuddington houses with a thermal imaging camera in January 2010 (in the snow). The camera is only sensitive to heat, not light, so these images show where heat is escaping from the house, which was very useful for the householders as they now know where to invest in insulation.
