"Cuddington's Gnomes at Home"

Our expert suggests that the origin of the gnome appears to be Germanic and perhaps based on immigrant miners of precious metals in Southern Germany.  Over the centuries the gnome came to be seen as an emblem of good luck.  So with his traditional pointed red hat he entered first the house and then the garden.  Other issues have been raised such as gender and procreation.  Also as to whether Snow White’s seven friends where dwarfs or gnomes?  Indeed, it is suggested that as miners those dwarfs were indeed gnomes.  Not sure whether any of this was answered in July but good fun was had by all!

Go Gnome!

The Village Fete in 2008 was "Victorian Cuddington"
